Housing

"They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations". (Isaiah 61 v 4)

Dave McGuire is a British builder who has been working full time in Romania for many years. A roofer by trade, he saw the plight of the gypsy people on a short trip to deliver food aid. On returning to the UK, he gave up his business and has established himself building houses for the poorest of the gypsy families in villages in and around Sighisoara.

A typical gypsy village is a shanty town of squatters shacks, each home about the size of a garden shed. Constructed of rough bits of wood and polythene sheets, they normally contain 2 rough beds and a stove. Whole families of perhaps 6 to 10 people live together with minimal protection from the freezing winters - for many months of the year snow lies thick on the ground and temperatures drop to minus 30 degrees.

This building ministry has made a massive difference to the lives of many people. Living in secure weather proof homes, lives are no longer at the mercy of the harsh winter conditions which bring sickness and death to the weak and vulnerable. Families enjoy improved health, which has a radical impact on their ability to attend school and find work. Please click here to visit our special "Clickonabrick" fundraising site for this project.

In addition to his building work, Dave is gifted in working with children to communicate the Good News. When his legendary blue van arrives in a village, children appear from nowhere - they know that something exciting is about to happen! Dave organises games, drama and singing, to communicate the Gospel message in a way that both young and old can understand.
